Jatindra Mohan Sengupta, great leader, lawyer, social worker, freedom fighter, nationalist and president of Bengal Swaraj Party, died at Ranchi. He was addresed by the people of Bengal as 'Deshapriya' (Beloved of the Country).

One of his most significant findings is that the intensity of cosmic rays during the last few million years has been the same as it is today. He was a geophysicist associated with the Physical Research Laboratory, Ahmedabad.
