Historical Event on 3/15/1998
Mr. Vajpayee is appointed Prime Minister. The number of MPs supporting the formation of a government by the BJP stands at 264 in a house of 539, just short of the working majority of 270. However, the President sees the figure as crossing the half-way mark as the Telugu Desam decides to remain neutral. Earlier, the Congress(I) conveys to the President its decision not to stake claim to form a government.

1/15/1784	Sir William Jones, Judge and linguist, and Sir Warren Hastings established the Asiatic Society of Bengal at Calcutta. This was the first scholastic institution.
4/1/1933	Indian Air Force was established at Drigh Road in Karachi (now in Pakistan). Subroto Mukherjee and four other officers were inducted as pilots when the first Indian Air Force Squadron was formed. The first aircraft flight joined the Indian Air Force, at that time it possessed a strength of six RAF-trained officers and 19 Havai Sepoys (literally, air soldiers); its aircraft inventory comprised four Westland Wapiti II. A army co-operation biplaned at Drigh Road as the ""A"" Flight nucleus of the planned No.1 (Army Co-operation) Squadron.
8/25/1997	10,000 people residing in low lying areas in Gujarat shifted to safer places following incessant rains for two days. Death toll mounts to 265.

2/11/1979	Shankarrao Narayanrao Mohite Patil `Sahakari Maharshi' passed away.
