During Gokhale Lajpat Rai's deputation to Britain, he appeals to Colonial statesmen to treat India ""an integral part of the Empire"" with consideration. Sanjeevan, weekly from Calcutta, also raised the motto to boycott British Goods.
12/3/1971Hostilities broke out between India and Pakistan. On the very night that hostilities commenced, with Pakistan bombing several air fields, IN Ships 'Rajput' and 'Akshay' were leaving Vishakapatnam harbour when they obtained a sonar contact. They fired several depth charges and proceeded on their mission when there was no further evidence of a submarine's presence. Thereafter, a loud explosion of rattling windows panes off the Vishakapatnam beach was heard . The Pakistani submarine 'Ghazi' (a Tench class submarine obtained from the USA in 1964) had come to grief.
3/26/1997Andhra Pradesh Assembly passes a Bill to amend the Prohibition Act, ending the state's 2-year experiment with total prohibition.
11/13/1995The Supreme Court in an unanimous 65-page verdict declares that patients who received deficient services from the medical profession and hospitals were entitled to claim damages under the Consumer Protection Act, 1986.
6/13/1889Salarjung, famous administrator, was born.
10/1/1997Gul Mohammed (36), world's shortest man, died in New Delhi. Standing 56.16 cm tall, Mohammed entered the Guinness Book of World Records in 1992.
