8/1/1905	Horse drawn tram cars were closed down in Bombay. This service was started on May 9, 1874 with 20 tram cars and 200 horses. The very first day of its run, the number of passengers carried was 451 and the amount earned was Rs. 85/- on the last day it had 1360 horses and carried 71,947 passengers and earned Rs.4,260/.

4/15/1946	The Kangla Tongbi war memorial built for 221 members Advance Base Depot, who laid down their lives to repulse several waves of Japanese attacks, was erected near a village named Kangla Tongbi at Mile 8 on the Imphal - Dimapur road. It was originally erected from local stone and the main epitaph displayed above is of black Naga stone.

8/11/2000	Koneru Humpy was crowned the youngest British Ladies chess champion at the end of eleventh and final round in the Smith and Williamson British chess championship in Somerset.
12/14/1969	Bishen Bedi takes 7-98 (career-best) v Australia at Calcutta.
5/6/1952	Maria Montessori, pioneer in mordern education, who spent almost 10 years in India, died in Noordwijk aan Zee. The principles and techiques advocated by her are also applied to the education of handicapped children and adult education.
