Historical Event on 12/31/1929
At the Lahore session, under the Presidentship of Jawaharlal Nehru, the Congress adopted a resolution of 'Poorna Swaraj' (Complete Independence), the slogan given by Gandhiji. The tricolour flag of freedom was unfurled and 26th January 1930 was decided to be celebrated as Independence day every year. This session led to Civil Disobedience Movement, Dandi March to break the Salt Law, etc.

1/4/1932 | Mahatma Gandhi and other members of his All-India National Congress are back in jail again. After the collapse of the London conference, British authorities cracked down even harder on Gandhi and his followers, and the Mahatma urged Indians to increase their acts of civil disobedience. ""Wake up from sleep,"" Gandhi said as he ordered a boycott of British goods. ""Discard foreign cloth. Discard narcotics. Discard violence. Defy all orders calculated to crush the national spirit."" The government declared Gandhi's Congress an illegal organization. Under new laws, even peaceful picketing is illegal. The Congress party responded to the crackdown by recruiting more followers and striking more plants. |

11/29/1996 | The Indian Journal of Medical Research brought out special issues, as part of the 85th year celebrations of ICMR, on Nutrition Research (November 1995) and Diarrhoeal Diseases (July, 1996). The ICMR Bulletin also brought out special issues on such topics as Nutrition, Tuberculosis, AIDS, Tribal Health, etc. so as to coincide with the theme selected for a particular month as part of the celebrations. As part of the global theme initiative coordinated by JAMA, USA, the January 1996 issue of the ICMR was devoted to 'Emerging and Re-emerging Infections'. |
